My name is Dian Mohammed, aged 15, and I am a software engineer based in Gateshead. I now, alongside my coding projects, advocate for the youth of today.
I started school almost 11 years ago, and although I have had many fun experiences, I have seen turbulent and sometimes dangerous ones too. What I realized throughout my school journey, was that schools have overlooked many of the issues that children/teenagers always bring up: bullying, discrimination, relationships, and health. As a student with years upon years of experience dealing with such problems, I have stepped forward as a leader; I will do what is necessary to mitigate these issues, and create a safer and more intuitive environment that is more suited for enjoyment and learning.
If I become your Gateshead MYP (Member of Youth Parliament), I will push new policies in order to make sure that schools do what needs to be done in order to help protect young people from bullying and/or discrimination. I will also advocate for safer connections between young people, in an effort to prevent gang violence and dangerous relationships, and foster long lasting friendships between youth.
The next MYP elections will take place somewhere around February 2026. Ask your school for more information, or visit https://nya.org.uk/ukyp/ . Feel free to contact me for any further details!
